Rockstar Leeds are looking for an "Environment Artist," according to a new job advert posted on the recruitment website Monster. At a glance, the role seems pretty broad, but looking at the job description, there are some interesting details that may refer to the next Grand Theft Auto.
One part of the job spec reads "creating and texturing environment assets for the biggest and best open-world environments in the industry." While this doesn't explicitly say GTA 6, we're looking at the possibility given that the Grand Theft Auto series is one of the biggest and best open-world environments.
But we have to take Bully 2 in consideration as well, which is also apparently in development. Rumors say that the game will be released on July 28, which likely started when Polygon accidentally posted a URL that indicated Bully 2 will be released sometime in 2020.
Another part of Rockstar's job spec reads "Join our team to create next-generation worlds." While the term "next generation" is open-ended, it could well allude to the next generation of consoles - specifically Sony's PlayStation 5 and Microsoft's Xbox Project Scarlett.
The developer could be possibly referring to the ninth generation of consoles, which backs up previous rumors saying that GTA 6 will be a next-gen exclusive. This is both a good thing and a bad thing, but GTA fans may want to play the next game in their current generation consoles. However, the idea of a Grand Theft Auto game with the best quality graphics ever is tantalizing, to say the least.
If there really is a GTA 6 being developed, Rockstar will still have a lot of work to put in, one of them touching up and adding some environments. That being said, it may take a while before the next GTA 6 is released, even later than many gamers had hoped.
Rockstar Leeds is credited as helping with the development of Grand Theft Auto 5 back in 2013, so it stands to reason that the company will be helping out with the next game in the series, too. The studio also helped with development on Red Dead Redemption 2, where the studio was listed as part of the collective Rockstar Studios.
So far, no word about other Rockstar titles have been announced, so we're placing our bets on the highly anticipated GTA 6. We do hope Rockstar releases something official about it soon.
