As the end of the transfer season looms, Premier League clubs are finishing up their transfer negotiations. The most recent to close a deal is Tottenham Hotspur. According to reports, Tottenham paid a £55 million transfer fee to acquire the talents of midfielder Giovani Lo Celso from Spanish club Real Betis.
The 23-year-old midfielder is expected to travel to London on Thursday. Once he arrived, he will be subjected to a mandatory medical checkup which will complete the transfer deal. Rumors of Lo Celso's transfer got a lot of attention when he was not included in Real Betis' squad list for the friendly match against Las Palmas.
Should the transfer deal go smoothly and without any hitch, Lo Celso will be Hotspur's second-biggest signing. The club signed Tanguy Ndombele earlier this summer from French club Lyon for a record fee of £63 million.
It would appear that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is giving his manager Mauricio Pochettino a lot of leeway during the whole transfer window. Having reached the Champions League final last season, Mauricio Pochettino appears to be keen into making the trip once again this season.
Tottenham is still not finished with its transfer negotiations. The club is reportedly in negotiations with Sporting Lisbon in an effort to acquire midfielder Bruno Fernandes. There are also reports claiming that the club is on the final stages of negotiations with Fulham for the transfer of Ryan Sessegnon. Rumors claim that Tottenham will have no problem closing the final deal before the transfer window closes on Thursday.
With a fully-loaded midfield, it will be quite tricky how Lo Celso will fit into Pochettino's player rotation. Nevertheless, some analysts have noted that it is always a great strategy to have a standby player alternative to the first choice once the season is on its latter stages, and injuries and fatigue starts to come into the equation.
Tottenham is still struggling to finalize its transfer deal for Argentine ace Paolo Dybala from Juventus. Dybala is willing to transfer to England as long as personal requests are met. Reports claim that the 25-year-old forward is asking for a £300,000-a-week wage. While some might agree that Dybala is indeed worth this amount of investment, it will be quite tricky for Tottenham to come up with such amount of resources.
As for the Dybala transfer, some analysts have noted that it will be extremely difficult for Tottenham to close it, especially with the end of the transfer window just around the corner. It might be extremely difficult to pull off, but not exactly impossible.
