Pete Lau, chief executive officer of OnePlus recently confirmed that the company is preparing to manufacture a second 5G smartphone. The device is scheduled to be manufactured by the end of 2019. Many tech enthusiasts and analysts believe that the CEO is referring to OnePlus 7T.

In a report by Financial Times, the upcoming 5G-globally capable smartphone will pick up the shroud from its predecessor, which is the OnePlus 7 Pro. This is the first-ever smartphone that the company released with 5g technology, but it is only available to UK's EE network. Considering the pones history, the upcoming smartphone could be called OnePlus 7T, which reportedly could come with 4G and 5G variants.

Although a lower-cost 4G variant would be released, OnePlus CEO shared in the article of Financial Times that a flagship smartphone released in the latter part of 2019 must be 5G-capable to be able to compete. The chief executive officer anticipates that 5G coverage will become widespread by 2020. While OnePlus was among the first smartphone makers to release a 5G capable smartphone, which is the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G, it is only currently available in several countries.

It is already a general idea that 5G will reach its turning point in 2020. This means that the 5G technology is an expected inclusion in any smartphone released on that year instead of being a luxury, which is considered at the moment. It is more surprising to hear a 5G-capable Google Pixel 4 releasing in 2019. As for the OnePlus 7T, consumers are expecting that aside from 5G it would house a newer Snapdragon 855 Plus processor.

The OnePlus 7T would most likely have an in-display fingerprint scanner and a pop-up selfie camera just like its predecessor. In terms of which networks it will draw its 5G speed from, it would certainly involve Sprint which will be included in the US. It is hard to say what might set the difference between the upcoming 5G-capable OnePlus 7T and the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G aside from perhaps software and hardware enhancements in the camera.

Pete Lau said that OnePlus believes that with the development of 5G technology in the coming year, it can have a much better performance. The CEO added that the company would invest more in anticipation of the upcoming 5G era. Unlike other smartphone makers, OnePlus does not hold its secrets well under its sleeves. So, we can expect more about this upcoming 5G-capable smartphone or OnePlus 7T, or whatever official name it will have soon.
