Unai Emery is under fire recently for the collapse of Arsenal against Watford. But, Paul Merson is not blaming him alone but also aiming at the 'pathetic Arsenal players. Meanwhile, Jermaine Jenas suggests that the Arsenal manager learns and practice what Joe Willock is doing.
Football television pundit and former footballer and manager Paul Merson faults Unai Emery for the Arsenal's downfall against Watford. Additionally, he also points blame on the pathetic Arsenal players. The Gunners seemed to be traversing towards a third Premier League win of the season last Sunday when a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang brace place Emery's team a couple of goals up at the Vicarage Road.
The Arsenal was in total control at half-time leading the game 2-0. However, it appeared that the team lost control of the actions when immediately halved the score difference after the break. Watford made a team record of 31 shots and finally breached the shaky defense of the Gunners when Roberto Pereyra made a late penalty to manage a draw.
Analyzing the game, Merson relayed in an interview that he has to put it on the manager. The television football pundit added that while people say that they are experienced people on the pitch, Unai Emery is still the team's manager and they are all paid to listen to what he says. Merson added that players could not have a manager instruct them on how to play and then proceed and do their own thing.
Merson said that it would be mutiny, and underlined that the players might be listening to Unai Emery, but he is the one not getting it right. The former manager also commented that Emery's substitutions were not right. He added that Arsenal needed to keep the ball in the game, but it keeps giving it away cheaply.
He also noticed that the only player who did not give away was Mesut Ozil. Merson further noted that it is obvious that Arsenal needs to score another goal, but Emery is bringing the youngsters on the game given the intensity of pressure. Retired English footballer Jermaine Jenas also commented About Unai Emery.
He said that the Arsenal manager should be playing Joe Willock regularly. Jenas praised Willock and tipped that he is the one to watch out for this season. Willock has made several appearances for the Gunners during the recent campaign and came off the bench during Arsenal's game against Watford.
