Competition is always good because it not only inspires other market players to improve and innovate but also brings the prices down. In the semiconductor industry, NVIDIA and AMD are just some of the greatest competitors when it comes to revolutionary products. A new leak surfaced earlier today claiming that NVIDIA, in response to AMD, is preparing to launch a couple of graphics cards designed for the mainstream masses.
A recent report from Videocardz reveals that NVIDIA is preparing two new cards in response to AMD's upcoming NAVI graphics cards line up. NVIDIA is anticipated to launch the GeForce GTX 1660 Super and the GeForce GTX 1650 Ti in October. These upcoming NVIDIA cards are designed and will be positioned to target the mainstream masses and to compete against AMD's Navi 14 graphics cards.
The report claims that it spotted four ASUS variants of GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER. These are EVO, Dual, TUF 3, and the Phoenix. But, what can these new NVIDIA graphics cards offer to the public when it becomes available.
Earlier reports claimed that the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER will deliver the latest GDDR6 memory interface while keeping the rest of its known specs. Additionally, it will use TU116-300 die similar to the existing GeForce GTX 1660. Moreover, it will feature 1408 CUDA cores, 48 ROPs, and 80 TMUs.
So far, we do not know about the clock speeds of the upcoming cards, but they are anticipated to feature a massive change in terms of memory design. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 will have 6 GB of GDDR5 memory and will run on 8 Gbps, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER is anticipated to run on 6 GB of GDDR6 memory running at 14 Gbps. This configuration is much faster than that of the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, which features only 12 Gbps dies. Additionally, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER will have a 192-bit bus interface and will provide a total bandwidth of 336 GB per second.
This is a rumor, not officially confirmed in any way, despite how the headline is worded. FYI. Nvidia hasn't publicly mentioned a GTX 1660 Super (or a GTX 1650 Ti) whatsoever much less a potential release date. https://t.co/JtWLaKYMp3 — Brad Chacos (@BradChacos) September 25, 2019
As for the pricing, the current price of NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 is $229 while the Ti model costs around $249. Wccftech argues that NVIDIA could decide to stop the production of the GTX 1660 and have the upcoming GTX 1660 SUPER replace it. It is also possible that they will retain the base model and offer the SUPER at a slightly higher retail price of $249.
