As surprises go, Nintendo has a knack for good timing. Like in last year's E3 event, among the many thrilling announcements, perhaps the biggest was the reveal that a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is officially in the works.
Since then, fans have only received bits and pieces of hints about BotW 2. Now a new leak has emerged, revealed the sequel's supposed official title, release date, and some features.
A 4chan user who goes by the handle Xhyll claims that he is in contact with an ex-Nintendo employee happened to reveal the company's future plans about the Breath of the Wild sequel. One of the plans is to release the game along with the launch of the rumored Nintendo Switch 2, which according to the leakster, will support 4K resolution and will be exclusively for home gaming.
The Switch 2 is rumored to arrive with major enhancements when it comes to graphics and computing, which will be featured through Breath of the Wild 2. Xhyll claims that a gameplay demo for the sequel exists, which according to the source, contains important details about the upcoming title.
The Nintendo source also claims that both the next-generation Switch and BotW 2 will have a January 2021 release. The company will reportedly recreate the original Switch's release strategy, which debuted alongside the original Breath of the Wild in 2017.
If this rumor turns out to be true, the rumored Switch 2 would make the perfect console to demonstrate the beauty of the Breath of the Wild sequel. It's worth noting that the original game had some graphical hiccups here and there due to barebones specs of the original Nintendo Switch. If there is indeed a new console, this means that the developers can make BotW 2 more immersive and even bigger.
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening has already shifted a massive 430k units in Europe. It was previously confirmed to be the fastest-selling Switch game of 2019 on the continent, although it's likely Pokemon Sword and Shield will give it a run for its money this November.
However, Link's Awakening continues to enjoy strong sales in Japan, which has prompted a lot of fans rallying for more Zelda games.
While Nintendo hasn't confirmed any of the rumors, Xhyll claims that the official title for Breath of the Wild 2 will be something similar to "Zelda Breath of the Darkness."
