When Ole Gunnar Solskjaer first arrived in Manchester United, he knew too well that the club needs a massive overhauling project. Several reports state that the Norwegian coach wanted to remove nine players from the roster of the Red Devils. Interestingly, Solskjaer shared this with United boss Ed Woodward.

BBC Sport recently reports that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told Ed Woodward that he wanted a massive overhaul of the Manchester United squad after assuming the post that Jose Mourinho vacated last December. The removal of these nine players was initially planned on an interim basis. The Red Devils are currently in the 12th place of the Premier League table and have so far gone to 11 away games without any victory since the 3-1 success Manchester had against Paris Saint-Germain.

While the name of the nine players that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted to remove from the team are not revealed, the report claims that three of the nine players were already identified by the Norwegian coach. These three left the club on a permanent contract in the summer while Chris Smalling and Alexis Sanchez joined Inter Milan and Roma on loan. Several recent reports also claimed that Manchester United is also letting go of Alexis Sanchez and has already set an asking price for the player.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also reportedly gave his nod on Marouane Fellaini's leaving the Old Trafford for the Chinese Super League in February 2020. Additionally, the report claimed that one of the staff at the Old Trafford describes the current situation of the club as a quagmire of mediocrity. Several people behind the scenes are supporting the Norwegian coach's decision to let go of Romelu Lukaku and Sanchez, considering that they no longer wanted to stay at the team.

It will be counter-productive on the part of Manchester United to keep those players who have already expressed their desire not to stay with the club. This summer, Manchester United spent £150million to acquire Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, and Daniel James. While these new players have shown their skills and even impressed the Norwegian coach, Ole is under tremendous pressure, with critics doubting his rebuilding project.

Meanwhile, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has recently expressed that Manchester United needs to get a new striker at the January transfer window to fill in the spots left by Romelu Lukaku.
