This year's flagship phone cycle officially ended with the launch of Google's Pixel 4 series, and while 2019 isn't over yet, it appears Samsung has already begun its plans of taking the lead next year with the release of the Galaxy S11 range. Unlike its predecessors, the company's next-generation smartphones are expected to come packing with more powerful features, at least according to one leakster.
While details of the Galaxy S11 lineup haven't been announced, tech enthusiasts can only predict or make guesses about Samsung's next move, which is what tipster Ice_Universe did. He's quite good in his guesses and so far has a good track record when it comes to Samsung devices.
According to Ice_Universe, the Korean tech giant will continue its usual practice of launching its smartphones with two different chipsets based on where the handset is heading. For South Korean phones, Samsung always uses its own Exynos processors. Chinese and American markets, meanwhile, are powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon processors.
The leakster believes that hen the Galaxy S11 arrives, it will either come with the Exynos 9830 or the Snapdragon 865.
Perhaps what's most exciting about the upcoming Galaxy S11 phones is that it will feature the new 12GB LPDDR5 RAM, which Samsung claims to be an industry-first. In July, the company started the mass production of its latest DRAM for premium smartphones.
The 12Gb LPDDR5 has a data rate of 5,500 megabits per second, making it 1.3 times faster than its predecessor, the LPDDR4X that's currently found in current smartphone models. Samsung claims that its new mobile RAM is capable of transferring 44GB of data in only a second.
The new chip also features a new circuit design so it would use less power than its previous version. However, this low feature won't affect the device's performance even when using it at incredibly high speeds.
"Samsung remains committed to rapidly introducing next-generation mobile memory technologies that deliver greater performance and higher capacity, as we continue to aggressively drive growth of the premium memory market," said Jung-bae Lee, executive vice president of DRAM Product & Technology, Samsung Electronics.
As for the Galaxy S11's display and camera, Ice_ Universe says that Samsung will finally give in to the 90Hz display trend and that the camera will have a 10x lossless zoom and 5x optical zoom feature.
The Galaxy S11 looks set to take over the mobile market next year. For now, we'll be waiting if Samsung confirms any of these features.
