One of the major issues that most online games face nowadays is the long queue times, and "Overwatch" is not an exception to this. It appears that the team behind the popular fighting game has already come up with a solution to solve this issue. The good news came directly from "Overwatch" director Jeff Kaplan.

During this year's BlizzCon "What's Next" panel, the "Overwatch" game director revealed that players would soon be able to enjoy different modes while they are waiting to join a match. Blizzard, according to Kaplan will introduce several ways to kill time while players are queuing for a match. This includes a distinct deathmatch mode, especially made for the occasion.

Jeff Kaplan also shared that if "Overwatch" players would like to spend time in the training room while waiting to join a match, Blizzard will soon let them do that. The feature will arrive soon in the game, but he did not reveal any more specifics regarding the release date. Kaplan, however, underlined that players would be allowed to boot up custom games as well as the "Overwatch" workshop while queuing.

This seems to be a good plan considering that "Overwatch" players have nothing much to do while waiting for the match. At present, even simple modes such as the practice range are inaccessible when players are queuing, which leaves players to simply browse hero gallery or watch replays just to spare themselves from the boredom of the long wait. The long queue times have become an issue following Blizzard's implementation of the role queue system earlier this year.

This new system requires "Overwatch" players to choose at least one role and will be assigned to a team based on the players' choice. Instead of speeding things up, Blizzard's new system caused much longer queue times particularly in higher ranks where there are fewer players. Also, DPS players searching for a match appear to outnumber the other roles by a massive margin, leaving them no choice but to wait for longer times between matches.

The upcoming modes intended for "Overwatch" queuing players promises to be a great alternative to keep players entertained and occupied while waiting for their matches. It could also be a great way to warm up before proceeding to a game. However, it does not in any way make the queuing shorter, not really solving the problem. Meanwhile, "Overwatch 2" has no release date yet, and Jeff Kaplan revealed that he has no idea when the game is arriving.
