Manchester United is reportedly considering Edin Dzeko for January over Mario Mandzukic for some reasons. Earlier this month, Metro reported that the Red Devils had already finalized terms with an unnamed target and were confident of making at least one signing in the upcoming January transfer window. United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is pleased with the progress of young stars Mason Greenwood and Daniel James along with the contribution of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford who have both returned to fitness and form.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, however, remains keen to bring experience to his squad when the transfer window opens again a few weeks from now. A new report from ESPN reveals that Machester City striker Edin Dzeko s not the top preference of Manchester United. The report claims that the Norwegian coach convinced Ed Woodward the need to shift from United's strategy of focusing on young talents.

ESPN states that Manchester United was closed to signing Mario Mandzukic in summer, but the deal did not push through. The Red Devils are reportedly anxious that Mandzukic, who has not yet played at all this season for Juventus may lack the needed match fitness as compared to Dzeko who has been an impressive starter for Rome.

Edin Dzeko has made six goals and a couple of assists in his 15 appearances for this season. Reports say that Old Trafford would rather get somebody who is physically ready to make the necessary immediate impact. Additionally, the Premier League experience of the 33 years old footballer is another advantage.
Dzeko made 72 goals in 189 appearances between 2011 and 2015 for Manchester City.

The Red Devils believe he will be essential in scoring goals in Old Trafford once again. United reportedly maintained its interest for Mandzukic who has allegedly halved his salary demands. However, since he has yet to make an appearance under Maurizio Sarri, the Red Devils are looking into other options.

Edin Dzeko has won a couple of Premier League titles during his time at Man City is considered an ideal alternative considering his experience and track record, ESPN shares. At this point, Manchester United is carefully treading when it comes to making decisions. The Red Devils would like to avoid making short-term and rash decisions and prefer to sign players who will deliver consistent results.

Ed Woodward is reportedly prepared to make a move for Edin Dzeko to bring balance to Manchester United. While the Red Devils could afford the deal, Roma could put a hefty price for Dzeko. The 33 years old Bosnian just inked an agreement with the club in August and is tied with Roma until 2022.
