Prince William is the second in the line of succession to the British throne and Kate Middleton is the future Queen consort. The Duke of Cambridge had been preparing himself for his upcoming role for years, with Queen Elizabeth mentoring him along the way.
As for Prince Harry, he and Meghan Markle wanted to start a new life outside the Royal family. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced back in January that they will be stepping down as senior royals to focus more on their family and charities and live a “peaceful life.”
A royal expert explained the difference between Prince William, Kate Middleton and Prince Harry, Meghan Markle. Richard Fitzwilliams shared that while the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are completely devoted to the Firm, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex wanted to do things their way.
“William and Kate, the future King and Queen Consort know that the future ‘inner core’ of the royal family lies with them and with George and his siblings and their future families,” he said. “What is encouraging for the monarchy, an institution which has a unique capacity for reinventing itself, are the qualities that both of them bring to their roles.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently returned to the UK to complete their final engagements as senior royals. The couple will officially be stripped off from their titles on March 31. Richard Fitzwilliams then said that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s royal exit “clears the way” for Prince William and Kate Middleton to shine.
“Harry and Meghan's departure clears the way for William and Kate, who are devoted to their royal duties, to shine in the global spotlight,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Royal Family’s official diary, the Court Circular, stated that Prince William had a meeting in Kensington Palace last month. Editor of Royal Central Charlie Proctor said that the Duke of Cambridge is “preparing to become King.”
“Just like Prince Charles is preparing to become King, William is already preparing to become Prince of Wales ready for the duties and responsibilities he will have to take on,” he said. “As time goes on his presence becomes ever more important meaning he has to commit all of his working time to royal duties. I think it is important to say that just like his father, William is also preparing to become King.”
