It has been a long wait for any updates on the highly anticipated adaptation of Dune but fans of Frank Herbert's novels are finally in for a treat. The first images from Denis Villeneuve's upcoming adaptation have finally been revealed and it confirms that the new film will be well worth the wait. Not surprisingly, people are excited about one particular thing in the pictures. The photos include the first look at Timothée Chalamet as the young Paul Atreides, the future savior of Arrakis.

The images were featured in Variety's cover story on Dune but as a teaser, a still photo from the movie was released. The picture shows Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides in what appears to be the character's home planet of Caladan. However, the cover story confirms that Paul will soon leave the planet and find himself on Arrakis, the desert planet inhabited by gigantic sand worms that protect the spice. In addition to that, the photos from the feature also offer the first looks at other characters including Lady Jessica, Duke Leto Atreides, Duncan Idaho, and more.

In the movie, Timothée Chalamet will play Paul Atreides, the young heir of House Atreides who is destined to take over stewardship of Arrakis after his father Duke Leto Atreides, who is portrayed by Oscar Isaac. However, Paul also discovers that he has another destiny as savior of Dune and will be needing the guidance of his Bene Gesserit mother Lady Jessica, who will be played by Rebecca Ferguson.

Additionally, Paul's dreams are haunted by a woman with bright glowing blue eyes who is later revealed to be Chani, a Fremen woman portrayed by Zendaya. Moreover, his future is in trouble as the rival House Harkonnen threatens to take power from House Atreides.

Dune is directed by Denis Villeneuve and will star Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, and Stellan Skarsgård as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen. The movie will also feature Dave Bautista as Glossu Rabban, Zendaya as Chani, David Dastmalchian as Piter De Vries, Stephen McKinley Henderson as Thufir Hawat, Charlotte Rampling as Gaius Helen Mohiam, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho and Javier Bardem as Stilgar.

Dune is one of the rare big-budget films that has not been delayed due to the Coronavirus outbreak this year. The movie is still scheduled for release on December 18.
