The Redmond-based tech giant Microsoft previously launched the Surface Duo with a holiday 2020 release window. However, several reports and leaks surfaced recently claiming that the dual-display device might release earlier than scheduled. It appears that the Redmond company's bid to release the Microsoft Surface Duo earlier is a race to beat Samsung's Galaxy Fold 2.

Several pieces of evidence recently surfaced online backing up claims that the much-anticipated release of Microsoft Surface Duo is happening very soon. Rumors have it the dual-display device might arrive as early as July of this year. Interestingly, to stay on schedule, the Redmond-based tech giant would release the device with Android 10 and would upgrade it Android 11 through OTA a few weeks later.

The latest claim about the Microsoft Surface Duo came from Windows Latest. According to the site, the company's decision to release the dual-display device with Android 10 instead of Android 11 is because of the company's anticipation to potential compatibility issues. Additionally, Microsoft is reportedly concern of its updated release timeline.

Google's Android 11 is anticipated to release in September of this year. In other words, Microsoft Surface Duo would receive the OTA update at around that time or later. Aside from this, Windows Central's Zac Bowden recently shared that he has spotted that the Your Phone app has assets for the Microsoft Surface Duo.

 

Additionally, the tech insider shared that the cut out the Microsoft Surface Duo on the right is the fingerprint reader. He also claimed that a source told him that the dual-display device might arrive in July or August of this year. Phone Arena reported that the Redmond company is working on the native compatibility of the upcoming device with Outlook and Edge apps.

The industry earlier learned that the Microsoft Surface Duo would house the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 CPU. It would reportedly come with a 6 GB RAM and between 64 and 256 GB of internal storage. The dual display, according to earlier rumors, would feature 1,800 x 1,350 resolution and would pack a battery of 3,560 mAh.

Samsung is reportedly preparing to launch the Galaxy Fold 2 this year. If based on the leaked specs, it looks like the upcoming dual-display smartphone from the South Korean tech and electronics giant would beat the Surface Duo. But, it is important to note that these specs are not yet official. Also, since both companies have not yet released the rumored devices, specs could still change. It is wiser to take these leaks and rumors with a pinch of salt.
