One of Kate Middleton's patronages is closing a shop that they manage amid the coronavirus pandemic. The Brink Cafe, which is operated by Action on Addiction, is not going to be opening any longer.

The charity announced the closure of its Liverpool cafe after 10 years. The Brink Cafe was a space that provided many opportunities for many those who have been recovering from addiction.

However, Action on Addiction stated in its official message that the iconic venue has had financial hardships because of COVID-19, like many businesses in the U.K. and around the world. Since restrictions have forced establishments and restaurants to lose customers, some were not able to recoup the losses, including The Brink Café.

Action on Addiction's statement further said that this is a "sad moment" yet they are still thankful for the support from the community. Inevitably, the Duchess of Cambridge may also be feeling sorry for the loss of such a wonderful site that helped so many other people.

According to Hello, Kate first visited The Brink in 2012 and tasted one of its specialty shakes at the bar, which they named after her.  She knew first-hand how this place has been a lifeline for many families.

Kate also returned to The Brink last December 2019 with none other than cooking expert Mary Berry. In fact, Mary Berry filmed her Christmas special on this site, with Kate and Prince William as the guests.

Action on Addiction, however, said that the therapeutic services offered at The Brink will still be available since these are funded by the Liverpool City Council. The organization will also keep fundraising so that more people can continue to avail of programs for their "long-term, stable, abstinence-based recovery."

Meanwhile, Kate recently talked to the Cloud House staff, the addiction treatment center also managed by Action on Addiction. She congratulated the workers who have been remotely helping a lot of recovering addicts seeking guidance and treatment during the lockdown.

Kate did a virtual visit of the facility, where she was shown how they've adapted to the new normal. She was very impressed by their holistic approach, which was also what The Brink Café was know for.

Incidentally, the virtual visit was Kate's first time to see the treatment facility. She promised that when things return to the way it is, she will pop in and say hello to the team at Cloud House in person.
