A reliable industry insider recently shared prices of the much-awaited ARM-based MacBook and MacBook Pro. Based on the prices, it looks like the Cupertino tech giant is slowly invading the low-cost segment that is currently dominated by China-made or Android-powered devices. Apple first confirmed that it is transitioning to use Apple Silicon to power its future Macs at this year's WWDC.

ARM-based MacBook And MacBook Pro Prices

The latest information about the prices of the ARM-based MacBook and MacBook Pro comes from a reliable tipster with a Twitter handle Komiya_kj. The tipster admits on his tweet that the prices are not exact and are just ballpark figures. According to him, the ARM-based MacBook would retail at the starting price of around $799.

Additionally, the tipster claims that the 13-inch ARM-based MacBook Pro would retail at approximately $1099. If the tipster's information about the upcoming ARM-based Macs' prices is accurate, this is an interesting move from Apple. Currently, the Cupertino tech giant is selling the 13-inch MacBook Air at $999 or $899 for students.

ARM-based MacBook with Apple's chip inside is expected to be energy-efficient and powerful. Earlier, the A12Z Bionic chip's Mac Mini score showed far higher results while natively running on a benchmarking app . The results are based on the device that features eight cores and it would yield far impressive scores with the 12-core portable Mac.

At present, the most affordable MacBook Pro retails at around $1299, and compared to the specs of ARM-based MacBook, Pro models feature higher technical specs. While these prices are unconfirmed and unofficial, it is interesting if Apple would indeed retail its upcoming ARM-based Macs at this price range.

What the Cupertino tech giant is planning for this move is unknown, but it is surely treading the same path it took when it introduced the iPhone X.

Other Details

Apart from the ARM-based MacBook and MacBook Pro pricing, another tipster claimed that Apple was preparing to launch the Intel iMac this week over the weekend. The claim was made by Twitter user Soybes who also said that the upcoming iMac would not feature a major redesign.

Interestingly, Front Page Tech's Jon Prosser doubts about this launch window. In a tweet, the industry insider said that he does not think Apple would launch the Intel iMac this week. Instead, Prosser suggested that those interested in seeing the new Intel iMac could wait next month for its launch.
