All four iPhone 12 models would not feature the rumored 120 Hz refresh rate, according to a new report. Over the past months, rumors have been swirling online, claiming that Apple's upcoming flagship iPhone would feature a high refresh rate. However, if the latest information is to go by, it looks like it is not going to happen.

iPhone 12 Series Refresh Rate

On his official Twitter account, DSCC Analyst Ross Young shares that there is no existing hardware in any iPhone 12 model to support high refresh rates. According to the analyst, reliable sources informed him that no iPhone 12 models would ship 120 Hz driver ICs. Without this particular hardware, no device would be able to offer a 120 Hz display refresh rate.

Young's recent statement refutes previous rumors, which claims that the upcoming flagship iPhone 12 series could theoretically offer a 120 Hz refresh rate. Those claims believed that it would be up to Apple to enable the feature, which could be possible through OTA update.

iPhone 12 Rumors

According to reports, the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro and the 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max are the models that would feature the 120 Hz display refresh rate. With Apple's recent confirmation that the iPhone 12 line up might arrive later than anticipated, speculations were rife that the Cupertino company could be using the time to work on the device's 120 Hz display refresh rate. There were also earlier rumors claiming that Apple does not want to compromise the upcoming iPhone models' battery life by introducing the 120 Hz display refresh rate.

Interestingly, whispers online believed that to be able to support the high refresh rate and the 5G connectivity support of iPhone 12 models, Apple would ship it with beefier battery cells. This claim is seemingly not going to happen considering a recent leak revealing that this year's iPhone 12 models would pack smaller batteries than the current generation iPhone 11 series.

YouTuber Filip Koroy of Everything ApplePro and Max Weinbach of XDA Developers, the issue with the high refresh rate is on its implementation on the iPhone 12 Pro. Earlier, the YouTuber hinted that the higher-tier iPhone 12 model could ship with a ProMotion.

When Can We Expect Higher Display Refresh rate From Apple iPhones?

One industry insider claims that consumers could wait until 2022 for this feature. According to him, the iPhone 13 series would have this much-awaited display feature. It is worth mentioning that this information about the display refresh rate of the iPhone 12 is not official. We suggest taking it with a pinch of salt.
