Six months after the release of the first foldable smartphone, the now Lenovo-owned company announces the new Motorola Razr 5G with a whopping $1400 price tag. In 2019, Motorola announced that it is bringing back the iconic clamshell flip phone Razr as a foldable smartphone. Banking on nostalgia, the device generated a lot of hype, but it was not hotly received based on sales.

Motorola is seemingly introducing the new Razr 5G foldable smartphone to perfect the original model. Among the many criticisms about the first Motorola Razr is that it shipped with not-so-new technology, and its design is not that durable. With the new Motorola Razr 5G, the company introduces a beefier SoC, a bigger battery pack, and an optimized camera configuration in the dame foldable form factor.

The new Motorola Razr 5G looks like its predecessor at a quick glance, but the company indeed made several tweaks to the new model. First is the change in the location of the fingerprint reader, which is now at the back of the foldable device positioned inside the company's iconic logo. Another is the new Razr 5G sports a matte finish with a glass back and Gorilla Glass for added protection.

Moreover, the tapered chin of the new Motorola Razr 5G is made of 7000 series Aluminum Alloy with the hinge made of stainless steel. The company also made the foldable smartphone's hinge durable. It claims that the hinge of the new Motorola Razr 5G can withstand up to 200,000 flips.

For an average user, it is equivalent to at least five years of flipping the new Motorola Razr 5G. According to the company, the upcoming device's hinge was developed to make sure that the teardrop display could fold flush with zero gaps. Meanwhile, the Motorola Razr 5G 2020 features a 6.2-inch 2142×876 plastic OLED main display with a 2.7-inch 800×600 Quick View glass OLED display.

While it does not use the UTG display, the device's inner display comes with a coating that shields the display from accidental splashes and spills. There are also metal support plates that offer tension and a flat surface to give the display a robust feel while offering fast shifts for the space needed for the teardrop display.

On the inside, the new Motorola Razr 5G houses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G SoC. The device packs 8 GB of RAM with a 256 GB flash storage. With four antennas scattered in its body, the upcoming device supports sub-6GHz 5G. It sports a 48 MP primary shooter and a 20 MP front camera.

The new Motorola Razr 5G will be available in the Fall of 2020 at AT&T and T-Mobile. It will retail at $1399 and available in three colors--Polished Graphite, Liquid Mercury, and Blush Gold.
