Despite the interesting price points of Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, an analyst predicted that the PS5 would still outsell its rival. Microsoft surprised the gaming industry last week when it announced the prices of its next-generation gaming consoles. Sony has yet to announce the official price of the PS5, but it is rumored to reveal the console's price at its upcoming event on September 16.

The latest prediction about the sales performance of competing for next-generation gaming consoles came from Ampere Analysis' Piers Harding-Rolls. According to the analyst, Sony's PS5 would sell 5 million units. He also noted that Microsoft's Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S would only have a combined 3.9 million units sold.

Harding-Rolls believed that this trend would continue moving forward with Xbox sales going steady while the PS5 is growing a little. By 2024, the analyst predicted that PS5 would sell 67.3 million, while the Xbox consoles would sell 44.3 million. Many are wondering why the analyst came up with this prediction considering that Xbox Series X would retail at $499 while the Xbox Series S at $299.

The PS5 is rumored to retail between $500 and $600, while its digital version might cost $100 less. It looks like the analysis considered a lot of factors aside from the consoles' prices. Microsoft offers a new strategy of offering two options to gamers instead of one. The analyst noted that the Xbox All Access and Xbox Game Pass services would be crucial.

This strategy enables players to gain access to a massive library of games without having to shell out cash upfront. PS5 is rumored to offer the same kind of services to gamers, but services offered by Xbox are far better established. Considering that Xbox is offering a lot more separate parts, marketing the console could be more difficult, according to the analysis.

While Harding-Rolls believes that Xbox's new strategy of offering two consoles could encourage gamers who would not want to upgrade their console for another two years, he also does not think that Microsoft could not shift PlayStation users to Xbox. The analyst thinks that Xbox could encourage its user base to get into the next-gen console faster through Xbox Series S.

This battle between gaming consoles is more than just about price. Some players are also looking into the kinds of games available to play. Sony is offering "Gran Turismo 7," "Spider-man: Miles Morales," "Horizon: Zero Dawn" and "Ratchet and Clank." So far, Microsoft has revealed some of its exclusive titles. This includes a new "Forza" game, "Hellblade 2" and "Halo: Infinite."
