Evander Holyfield was one of the many viewers who caught the Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. fight last weekend. And like most, he was one of those who felt that the main event could have offered something better.

Holyfield was the original opponent most expected to face Iron Mike but talks failed to gain traction. This paved the way for Jones to enter the picture. In the eyes of the “Real Deal,” the 51-year-old was more of a tune-up for Tyson for much bigger fights. And apparently, he was referring to himself.

Hence, Holyfield has officially called out Tyson for a trilogy fight – something that makes sense. He claims that Tyson has run out of excuses, clearly egging Iron Mike to face him in his next match.

“My side tried to make the fight happen and we got nothing but excuses,” Holyfield said in an official release posted on Twitter by Aaron Bronsteter. “Now I can see why he wanted a tune-up fight before thinking about fighting me.”

Tyson has yet to respond to Holyfield’s comments but is likely to do so soon. Also, it would be best to note that Tyson is down to face Holyfield. However, he believes there are better chances of seeing that happen if he and Holyfield personally discuss it.

Tyson feels that his and Holyfield’s backers are the reason why a clash between them failed to materialize.

“Maybe Evander needs to talk to me because every time my business associates talk to his business associates, it doesn’t turn out well,” Tyson stated.

Tyson looked good against Jones and seemed ready to fight in more rounds. However, he admitted that despite fighting two rounds, it felt as if he was doing three-minute rounds. But compared to Jones, he was obviously in better shape.

It remains to be seen if Tyson and Holyfield will stick to the two-minute rounds. But at their age, it could be enough for health-related purposes.

Both fighters may be past their prime but are ready to make that trilogy fight happen. But as mentioned earlier, Tyson feels it can only gain ground if only the two of them discuss it and leave out the associated backing them who may have some other agenda.

“So I don’t know. If you could see what we made tonight, if these guys really care about the welfare of Evander, they would have had this fight with Evander. Maybe we’ll do another but, whoever’s he’s with who’s handling him is totally wrong,” Tyson said.
