Canelo Alvarez is coming off a dominating performance against Callum Smith, ultimately winning it via unanimous decision. The Mexican gave the British boxer a tough beating and most are now eager to find out who his next opponent will be.

Without question, the name that comes to mind is Gennady Golovkin. The 38-year-old fought the night before the Alvarez vs. Smith main event and likewise pummeled previously undefeated Kamil Szeremeta. The side of the Turkish asked the referee to stop the fight in the 7th round with their boy simply no match to the Kazakhstani.

With Alvarez and Golovkin hacking out dominating performances, the logical choice is for both to face each other. The Mexican is ready and open to the idea and emphasized that he does not run from anybody, DAZN via Boxingscene reported.

"I don't run from nobody. I just showed that I fought against the best," Canelo said. "Of course, if he is going to take that fight, I'll take it. But I showed the world that I fight against the best."

Though he has options, Alvarez could make the best profit if he engages in a third fight with Golovkin. The first one ended in a draw while the second went in favor of the Mexican Brawler.

However, booking that blockbuster boxing match is easier said than done. Alvarez mentioned that he does have goals in mind, that of which is winning all the titles in the 168-pound class.

But his immediate order of business is to defend the WBC title with Avni Yildirim waiting in the wings. Alvarez needs to make that mandatory title defense unless he chooses to vacate the title.

As for Golovkin, he hinted that he would be open to a trilogy fight with Alvarez if it can be worked out. But like Canelo, GGG is focusing more on fights that can be made rather than wait for that third fight to get sealed. He pointed out how talk about the fight got stalled and preferred to deal with doable fights instead.

"I don't think about this because I'm tired of thinking about it," Golovkin said to AFP via Boxingscene. "Currently, it's too early to say, but there is a possibility this fight might never happen."

A clearer picture about an Alvarez vs. Golovkin III should take shape by 2021. For now, both are expected to rest and savor their respective victories as the forgettable year of 2020 comes to a close.
