Consumers looking to buy a powerful Apple MacBook at the moment have the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros as the only options, aside from the less powerful but more portable MacBook Air. That said, is it a good time to buy these devices? Maybe not, a report says.

Every year, Apple releases new or updated versions of existing products. To date, however, the Cupertino tech giant has to release an update for the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, and since the tech industry keeps on churning out new and better items, it might be better to wait for the newer models instead, MacWorld noted.

That said, those who really need to upgrade from an older MacBook or need more juice from a MacBook Air are free to buy the 2021 MacBook Pro models that are currently available. Here's a quick review of their specs and features:

First of all, the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro are powered by a new processor, have a new display, feature a full-sized row of function keys, and offer a slew of ports. They replace the 2019 model powered by an Intel chip.

Consumers can choose from either an M1 Pro or M1 Max processor. Apple said the M1 Pro is 70% faster than the M1, while the M1 Max boasts of a GPU that's four times better than the one on the M1.

The 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro features a Liquid Retina XDR display, which has mini-LED and ProMotion support. This means higher brightness levels (up to 1,600 nits) and improved color accuracy.

The 2021 MacBook Pros also offer users many ports where to attach their accessories: three Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI port, and an SDXC slot. Further, there's an improved FaceTime camera that can record up to 1080p.

Consumers can purchase the 14- or 16-inch MacBook Pro with varying processor options (either an M1 Pro or M1 Max), RAM sizes and storage options that fit their needs. The higher the RAM and the bigger the storage, the higher the price of the device.

That said, the 14-inch MacBook Pro starts at $1,999 for the base model, while the 16-inch MacBook Pro starts at $2,499. The highest-end configuration costs $6,000.

Get It or Not?

The current MacBook Pro is definitely a powerful machine, more powerful than older MacBook Pro models and current MacBook Air models. Those who are using older MacBook Pro models or MacBook Air models and are in need of a more powerful machine but couldn't wait for Apple to release new MacBook Pro models can simply get these from the Apple Store.

Those who just want more power but aren't in a hurry, on the other hand, can opt to wait for new models that Apple might release this month, or even early next year.
