When Prince William's relationship with Princess Kate, who was then his girlfriend, was revealed during a dinner party at a university, he responded with a resounding outburst. During their time as students at St. Andrews, the royal famously met the woman who would later become his wife.
According to reports, things took a romantic turn after Princess Kate caught Prince William's eye when she modeled a semi-sheer outfit at a charity fashion show in 2002. These events apparently led to the beginning of their relationship as friends. Together with two other students from the same class, the couple began living together in the same year, The Mirror reported.
Royal author Robert Jobson claimed in his new biography “Catherine, the Princess of Wales,” "among the student community, it was an open secret that they were a couple.” However, it was one of Prince William's former girlfriends who disclosed their relationship to the public for the first time.
The "revealing moment" occurred at a dinner party that was attended by friends of William and Kate, including his ex-girlfriend Carly Massy-Birch, according to Robert. The dinner party was attended by friends of the couple. He added that Carly "perhaps unwittingly" revealed the couple's relationship while they were playing a drunken game of "Never Have I Ever," which "much to the prince's chagrin.”
The work of another royal author, Katie Nicholl, who also wrote about the momentous night in her book "Kate: The Future Queen" published in 2013, was cited by him. "[Carly] announced, 'I've never dated two people in this room,' knowing full well that William was the only one who had because Kate was sitting next to him," a guest at the party told Katie.
The unnamed source who was present at the dinner stated that everyone there was "in shock." It went on to say that Prince William "shot a thunderous look" at his ex-girlfriend and reportedly said under his breath, "I can't believe you just said that."
“We knew they were together, but it was the first time William confirmed his and Kate's relationship in public," the anonymous insider went on. The issue was able to be put behind Prince William, and the pair continued to maintain their friendship with Carly despite the fact that he first felt frustrated by it. She was so fortunate to receive an invitation to attend their wedding, which took place at Westminster Abbey in 2011.
Prince William is alleged to have had a romantic relationship with Carly during his first semester in college. Her parents were the ones who confirmed that they had been dating for less than two months and that they had even attended dinner parties together.
"We got on well, but I think we would have got on well even if nothing had been going on romantically. It was very much a university thing, just a regular university romance. There wasn't really a club at St. Andrews, so we tended to go to pubs and bars, and there was always a good dinner party going on,” Carly later said about the time she and Prince William were still together.
