For years, Angelina Jolie and her father, Jon Voight, have maintained an emotionally turbulent relationship.
Jolie has not forgiven some of Voight's past transgressions, despite the fact that the Anaconda actor has been more forthcoming about his daughter and grandchildren in recent months, according to a source.
In 1975, the actress from "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" was born to Voight and her mother, Marcheline Bertrand. Nevertheless, her parents formally announced their separation in 1976 as a result of Voight's infidelity.
"She’s never really forgiven him for breaking her mom’s heart," an unnamed source told In Touch Weekly.
Bertrand formally applied for divorce in 1978, and it was finalized in 1980. However, the source disclosed that Jolie felt neglected by her father following the separation, as he was "out partying and living the life he wanted to" rather than being present for her as she matured.
The father-daughter relationship has experienced intermittent periods of estrangement over the years. However, the "Maleficent" actress recently felt that her father had crossed a line in terms of his candor regarding her family life and legal matters.
"Angelina finds her dad’s politics hard to stomach, but she really draws the line when he talks about her kids as though he has some inside scoop. It makes her absolutely furious and proves Jon is the same self-centered person he’s always been," the anonymous insider added.
He chose to speak out about her tumultuous divorce and subsequent court battle with ex-husband Brad Pitt, which caused her particular distress. Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Zahara, 20, Shiloh, 18, and the twins Knox and Vivienne are the children of the couple. Over the past eight years, they have been involved in various legal disputes, including custody disputes and the possession of their collective French winery.
"I wish they'd find a way to make peace," the 85-year-old actor expressed his opinion of Pitt and Jolie, as per OK! Magazine. "You know, I think the kids need some stability. I love the kids, and I love my daughter. And I want Brad to step up to do, you know, what he has to do. End this nonsense."
According to the undisclosed informant, the mother of six discovered this specific comment "especially offensive."
“All Angelina has done is stand up for her family. It undermines her and minimizes the trauma she’s been through. Considering Jon was such an absent parent she finds it ironic that he’s now so concerned about her kids," the tipster went on.
