Tobey Maguire, an ardent poker player, is employing his finely-honed take-no-prisoners style tactics to secure a role in the forthcoming "Spider-Ma"n film and make a fortune, a new report claimed.
“The checks for Spider-Man have been, for the last twenty-two years, the foundation of Tobey’s wealth and key to the prosperity of his entourage and team as well,” an unnamed source told In Touch Weekly of Tobey's business and friend group.
The debut of the first modern live-action "Spider-Man" in 2001 was one of Marvel's earliest smash successes. The film propelled Tobey, 49, to fame and increased his wealth, ultimately resulting in the superhero's inclusion in the labyrinthian extended universe in 2015.
The actor returned to his iconic role as Peter Parker for "Spider-Man 2" in 2004 and "Spider-Man 3" in 2007. However, the anticipated fourth "Spider-Man" was never released in theaters due to script and production complications. In 2012, Columbia Pictures chose to reboot the franchise with Andrew Garfield as the titular character in "The Amazing Spider-Man" and to ax Tobey as the protagonist, as per Screen Rant.
Andrew, 41, was not to remain in the role beyond "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" in 2014, as Tom Holland assumed the role when the character joined the MCU for "Captain America: Civil War" in 2016. Tom, 28, would feature in his film about Peter Parker a year later in "Spider-Man: Homecoming."
He would return to the role in "Spider-Man: Far From Home" (2019) and "Spider-Man: No Way Home" (2021). The latter film also featured Andrew and Tobey's Spider-Men in cameo appearances, much to the audience's enjoyment.
“Now that he’s firmly back in the franchise after his slam-dunk work in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home helped it become the biggest moneymaker in the series, he’s not in the mood to let go and is negotiating to appear in the planned 2026 follow-up film [currently known as Spider-Man 4].”
The latest series' mainstays, Tom and Zendaya, who portrays M.J. opposite Peter Parker, are confirmed for the franchise's continuation, as per The Hollywood Reporter. Nevertheless, the query remains: Will Tobey be returning? The solution is found in the studio's readiness to expose the actor's deception.
“Make no mistake, Tobey drives an extremely hard bargain and demands Tom Cruise-level paydays for these appearances,” the source clarified. “Tobey has advisors who have been with him forever and endorse his hardball, high pressure tactics for getting these big jobs, especially when it comes to the role he will be remembered for.”
Alex Perez says the forthcoming project has not yet been officially named. However, if Tobey's contract negotiations are successful, “there is a very strong possibility [Tobey and Andrew] show up for an extended role this time around.”
Additionally, Tobey's famed poker abilities come into play because he truly despises leaving money on the table, which is something that drives him completely insane, the informant noted further.
It is all about that enormous check, and nobody on either side of the table is under any other illusion. However, he will gladly continue to return to Spider-Man, and he will do it with great enthusiasm.
