After months of delays, Samsung is reportedly ready to launch the Galaxy Fold. The device has been redesigned to fix the issues it faced.
That's according to a report by Bloomberg, who spoke with "people familiar with the matter," who said that the phone's screen failures have now been remedied after a two-month redesign. The report says that Samsung is now in the final stages of releasing the Galaxy Fold's commercial version, albeit the lack of an exact date of launch.
The Galaxy Fold was previously set for an April launch, but that was before review units started facing issues for tech reviewers. Samsung's reaction was to delay the launch of the device, and it began an investigation on how to fix the problems reported by journalists.
DJ Koh, Samsung's CEO, recently admitted that he rushed the launch of the foldable device. What's great is that the company was quick to remedy the situation, and now that testing is in the final stages, sales should be underway.
One of the problems reported by tech journalists was the protective film that was way too easy to remove over the display. This protective film is important to the integrity of the screen. What Samsung did to fix this issue was to make the film more impossible to remove, stretching it under the frame.
There were also reports of debris lodged between the body of the phone and the display. Samsung has redesigned the gap to make it flush with the display. When fully opened, the film also stretches.
This should make the gap narrower between the display and the body and no debris should enter from here on out. The new hinge design also creates more tension when you open the device fully, allowing for a more solid feel and prevent the creasing in the center.
No release date has been announced by Samsung, but the same report says that some components, such as the battery and display, will soon start shipping to Vietnam to make it for mass production in time.
Samsung has an event scheduled on August 7 to officially introduce the new Note 10 phones and we're expecting it's going to reveal more info on the new and improved Galaxy Fold. Perhaps an official announcement of its official launch.
Despite the mishap, it's a good thing Samsung made the effort of fixing the Galaxy Fold's issues. It will come, but not so soon, we believe.
