Recently, fans of Golden State Warriors were delighted to learn that the team is keeping Draymond Green. The deal was a four-year extension with the Dubs and was inked over the weekend. But, little did the fans know that Draymond Green's offer comes with a lot of perks that includes a 15 percent trade kicker and an opt-out after three NBA seasons.
The Athletic's Shams Charania recently reported that Draymond Green was offered not only a $100 million four year extension. The NBA defensive player can also opt out after three NBA seasons. In addition, Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes reported that the NBA player allegedly will get a 15 percent trade kicker from the recent deal with the Golden State Warriors. Additionally, the trade kicker includes a second player-friendly detail to Draymond Green's deal that runs until NBA season 2023 to 2024.
A trade kicker is an addition to the contract that recompenses the player in case that he gets traded. This also makes trading Draymond Green in the future a difficult task to facilitate. The trade kicker on Green's contract with the GSW simply states that if he gets traded at any point while the contract is not fully consummated, he will receive an extra 15 percent of whatever remains on the life of his contract. This is regardless if he is a few months away from becoming a free agent.

The Golden State Warriors would be liable to pay Draymond Green that price. On the part of the team acquiring the NBA star, they have to absorb it into their salary cap, which is definitely not an easy task. Simply put, this additional trade kicker makes it very difficult to trade Green and benefits him if ever it happens. The 15 percent trade kicker is the highest allowable amount approved by the CBA, and Klay Thompson got the same number when he inked his recent contract with the Golden State Warriors.

Draymond Green was set to be a free agent in the next NBA season, however, he decided to ink the extension offered by the GSW early. In his recent contract, he has the player option during the final year. This means that he will be a free agent in 2024 should he stay with the GSW but he can also decide to leave the team during the final year of the contract.
