The much-awaited official release of the foldable smartphone from Huawei met another delay. The supposed September release date is further delayed and according to the Chinese tech titan the Huawei Mate X might be released between September and November of this year. Interestingly, the delay could be due to major refinements and additional screens for the upcoming foldable smartphone.
TechRadar recently shared that Huawei already confirmed with them that the release date of the Huawei Mate X will be anytime between September and November. The Chinese company is certain that the highly anticipated foldable smartphone will be available to the public before 2019 ends. Aside from the confirmed release window the site also reveals that the upcoming foldable smartphone will have more screens.
The Huawei Mate X also got major refinements, which many tech enthusiasts claim could be the reason why the device is not yet released as earlier promised. Major improvements could include the replacement of the steel rear cover of the foldable smartphone with a glass cover. Interestingly, those glass covers are interactive and could become touchable displays, but, it is not yet confirmed if the final product will retain the glass cover.
The Huawei Mate X that was shown at the company headquarters in Shenzhen is different from the previous version that was shown to the public or the one that was seen at the hands of the company's CEO Richard YU in July. The newer version has a much slimmer lock button that flashes when the phone is laid flat. The Falcon hinge has also received refinements but the Huawei Mate X will not have carbon fiber hinges.
The Huawei engineering team tried to change the steel back of the Huawei Mate X with aluminum back. This makes the upcoming foldable smartphone a lot lighter by 20g. However, they realized later that the aluminum was not strong enough so they reverted to the steel back cover. The team also tried to integrate the sheet display similar to that of a roll-out sunshade that allows you to extend the display at the bottom of the smartphone.
This kind of technology is still years ahead of us but it's interesting to know that Huawei is already toying with this idea and plans to integrate it with the Huawei Mate X. But, at the moment, the front display of the Huawei Mate X is covered in plastic since glass does not simply fold. There are definitely a lot of challenges particularly in the assembly of the upcoming device. Given the complications of the design, it's interesting to know that before the year ends, Huawei Mate X will be available for everyone to see and experience.
