"The Elder Scrolls Online" is aiming for a 2020 Google Stadia release. The online game from Bethesda has been recently speculated to be released on Nintendo Switch. Matt Firor recently explained some details about porting the game to the hybrid console from Sony.
Five years ago, game developer ZeniMax and Bethesda released "The Elder Scrolls Online." Although the online game is not the most popular online title today, it certainly has a massive fan base of loyal gamers responsible for keeping the game alive. During Google's Stadia event at the Gamescom, the upcoming port for the online game was revealed.
"The Elder Scrolls Online" was initially released on PC and was ported to Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Game Director Matt Firror revealed in an interview that they are targeting to launch the game on Google Stadia in 2020, possibly in the first half. He also shared that cross-play between Google Stadia and PC will be available.
According to the game director, "The Elder Scrolls Online" currently runs great on all devices supported by Google Stadia. Interestingly, the online game even works well on smartphones. It utilizes a controller UI that works just fine on smartphones. While it is not ideal for playing the game on mobile phones for hours, it's a relief that you can use your phones to log in and feed your horse.
Matt Firror was also asked about the possibility of porting "The Elder Scrolls Online" on Nintendo Switch. This will open more opportunity to the game to be available for gamers who want to play it on the go. However, the game director revealed that right now, it is technically impossible for the game to be released on the hybrid console.
"The Elder Scrolls Online" is a massive game, and it is impossible to be released on a gaming console like the Nintendo Switch. Some Bethesda games like "Skyrim" is playable on the hybrid console. However, Firror noted that the Nintendo Switch does not have the processing power that the traditional home consoles like Xbox One and PlayStation 4 have.
"The Elder Scrolls Online" on Nintendo Switch is not going to happen, according to the game director. He added that the only way it could work is if Switch has some kind of streaming service. The game director's answer is clear and straightforward and also underlines the hardware limitations of the Nintendo Switch especially for massive online games like "The Elder Scrolls Online."
