The failed transfer talks between Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona have reportedly left Neymar angry and frustrated. The Brazilian will have to remain at Parc des Princes until, at least, January. Next summer, Neymar can leave if a club can afford to pay an amount close to €170 million.
According to SPORT (citing sources close to Neymar), the 27-year old is worn down, a feeling he has never experienced in his entire career. He can't believe that PSG deliberately blocked his move to Barca when all the terms had been met: €20 million of his own money, €150 million, plus Jean Clair Todibo, Ivan Rakitic, and Ousmane Dembele on loan.
The report states that Neymar had been feeling angry and frustrated after it dawned on him that PSG's objective was to punish him. SPORT notes that the decision led by Nasser Al-Khelaifi, from a sporting point of view, has no justification at all. From a financial standpoint, it's not quite feasible either, given the whole deal was valued more than €200 million.
As much as PSG said he was not for sale, that there was no release clause Neymar was convinced that in the last minute of the transfer window they would open the door for a Camp Nou return.
Now Neymar feels that he is being forced by PSG to stay - remain in the club against his will - as a form of punishment.
Before the Copa America in May, Neymar had already told the club of his intentions to leave. He reportedly told the sporting director at the time, Antero Henrique (and later, Leonardo), the coach, his teammates, and the Qatari owners.
PSG responded in a way that was offensive for Neymar - Al Khelaifi telling him off publicly and the club's blatant refusal of a peaceful sale to Barca.
The Brazilian star has been hoping to start his career anew in Barcelona, so him, being stuck at PSG is a huge setback. He is eager to leave PSG to break the unfortunate cycle he has experienced at the club. Playing for France has dropped him off of the Ballon d'Or list, and he hasn't gotten any close to the Champions League either.
It's safe to say that this summer had been tough for Neymar. He was accused of rape (which had been dismissed), then he had to miss Copa America due to an ankle injury, which PSG had won. Now, he's awaited return to Barca had failed.
What's next for Neymar?
