In a recent report, Tim Ash, a developer at BoxFrog Games revealed that PlayStation 5 has an SSD-based storage sub-system. The developer underlined the role of SSD in the gaming console and its effect in terms of performance and immersion. Ash highlighted the importance of how PlayStation 5's ultra-fast SSD speeds up the load times that can significantly affect the total gaming experience, which many players fail to consider.
Being able to quickly load the game into new areas in the map instead of waiting for roughly 10 minutes while all other dungeons load, will impact the player's engagement. Additionally, reports are claiming that the CPU of PlayStation 5 will make development times much faster are some of the reasons that gamers should be excited about Sony's next-generation gaming console. Last June, Jim Ryan, Sony PlayStation chief executive officer hinted the ultra-fast SSD of PlayStation 5.
The CEO also mentioned about the PlayStation 5 supporting 4K 120 Hz output. So far, Sony is tight-lipped on the pricing, release date, and several other details surrounding its next-generation gaming console. The company only said that the price of the upcoming gaming console would be appealing, considering the advanced feature that it is equipped to offer.
We can confirm that the PlayStation 5 will use AMD hardware. An earlier official statement from Mark Cerny revealed that the gaming console would have a Zen 2-based central processing unit and Navi graphics processing unit. As for the release date, nothing is certain as of the moment although there were previous claims that the next-generation console might be launched at the PlayStation Event on February 2020.
