The Redmond-based tech giant has done a great job with its Microsoft Surface line of hardware in competing against higher tier market for tablets and laptops. A new report claims that Microsoft is set to launch its new Microsoft Surface Laptop 3. Allegedly, this latest generation laptop will adopt AMD hardware.
Earlier this week, rumors have it that the Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 will have a 15-inch display. Additionally, Winfuture reports that the upcoming machines will be a unique batch compared to its predecessors since this time it will be released with AMD processors instead of Intel. Since October 2018, rumors were rife that the next-generation Surface Laptop might be released packed with Qualcomm Snapdragon processors.
According to WinFuture, there are several entries in the European retailers' non-public databases that confirm that the Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 will have AMD CPUs. There are three Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 models with AMD chips that are found in the database entries, but it does not reveal which particular AMD chips will be used. If the recent report is accurate, the Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 will be the first product from Redmond-based tech giant that will renounce the long-time partnership of the company with Intel and instead use the chips of its direct competitor, AMD.
Last January, AMD unveiled the Picasso Ryzen APU and speculations claim that AMD is developing its Renoir APU with Zen 2 cores along with Raven Ridge-based Dali APUs. These next-generation chips could be well utilized in Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 since the Renoir parts are anticipated to be on high-end products and Dali on the low-end market segment. Possible AMD parts that the Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 will have are Ryzen 7 3750H and Ryzen 5 3550H.
Both chips are quad-core with AMD Radeon RX Vega GPUs. So far, it is not clear if the Redmond-based tech giant will use both Intel and AMD on its Microsoft Surface Laptop 3. But, Microsoft, will most likely announce this during its October 2 Surface event. The other Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 model is rumored to have a 13.5-inch size and will also be released with AMD chips.
However, based on the dealer's data, the 13.5-inch Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 will still have Intel chips. Will Microsoft offer the 15-inch Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 model with Intel chips as an option? We do not know that for now, but we are hoping that the company will.
