"The Last of Us Part 2" is one of the much-awaited and heavily speculated upcoming games. Since the game was officially announced in 2017, fans never stopped gathering hints about what the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive sequel will be about. Interestingly, the latest trailer shared by Naughty Dog at the State of Play event reveals the answer to one of the nagging questions that fans have long been wondering about-why is Ellie on a killing spree?

The latest "The Last of Us Part 2" trailer was shown at the State of Play event,. The trailer is a three-minute video and was an impressive capstone. The brief trailer finally provides us with a much deeper context surrounding the driving force behind the murderous rampage of Ellie. Also, the brief video, for the first time, showed a brief appearance of Joel, a solid indication that he will be there alongside Ellie for another perilous journey.

The trailer offers a new perspective to fans, that is, "The Last of Us Part 2" will be placing the players in the shoes of Ellie instead of Joel. With hate as its central theme, it appears that Ellie is on her personal journey to avenge the murder of her partner Dina. The bracelet that Naughty Dog recently teased about perfectly fits with the trailer and Ellie's narrative.

Fans will travel the dangerous wilderness, relying solely on Ellie's wits and skills to achieve her mission in "The Last of Us Part 2." Joel will be there alongside Ellie, but it is apparent that he will be on the sideline for this particular installation. The trailer starts the day after the dance with Dina and Ellie joking about sharing a kiss prior to their patrolling activity.

Then a voice can be heard warning them about running into something that they could not handle. It seems that something was wrong about the patrol, and Dina was captured and executed by a hostile group. Ellie was warned by Tommy, Joel's brother, but Ellie is determined to avenge Dina's death. It could be because of mixed love and guilt and overpowering emotions that she is feeling in the wake of her girlfriend's untimely death.

There are also new faces of survivors and zombie-killing actions in the latest "The Last of Us Part 2" trailer before Ellie was grabbed from behind. Then, Joel enters the picture, ever ready to help Ellie in her terrible mission. Joel looks old like he aged three more decades. But, his appearance is a welcome assurance that fans will still get to see him in the game.

Game Director Niel Druckman wrote in a post that they know how much fans of "The Last of Us Part 2" love the game and its characters particularly Joel and Ellie. He also explained that they are fans too, and it is one of the reasons why they spent many years developing the game to give them justice. The game director goes on asking, How far would you go to get justice against the people who hurt the ones you dearly love?

Along with the new trailer is the official announcement of the release date of the game. "The Last of Us Part 2" will be released exclusively on PlayStation 4 on February 21, 2020.
