Harry Kane has expressed his disappointment over Tottenham Hotspur's poor start to the season. The striker feels the club is not living up to the "standards" they have set in recent years.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Kane spoke about the Tottenham's miserable run of domestic form, managing only two victories out of eight in all competitions. The Lilywhites lost 4-3 on penalties to League Two side Colchester United at the Carabao Cup's third round.
Given the Spurs haven't won a trophy since 2008, their most recent loss has sunk them further to new lows, and Kane believes there are no excuses.
"We're not inexperienced anymore, we're not young anymore, the excuses aren't there for us anymore. It's down to us players to take responsibility," the Englishman ranted.
"I'd say it's been disappointing. I don't think there's any hiding behind that. To only win two games out of our first seven is not the standards that we've set in previous years."
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino already has plans to make additions to his squad in the upcoming transfer window. The Argentine implied that there's a growing unease within the club, which he described as "different agendas in the squad."
The Spurs' key members have shown signs of cracking during a summer filled with rumors. Earlier this year, midfielder Christian Eriksen basically announced that he's been wanting to leave Tottenham.
Eriksen is still with the club, but his loyalty is now in question after his public declaration. In the same manner, Spurs center-backs Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen have made no indication they will sign new deals with the club. Both players are entering the final year of their contracts.
Tottenham made some buys, but they are yet to prove themselves as good additions to the squad who lost against Liverpool in last season's UEFA Champions League.

Spectators have noted how Tottenham appears to have gone stale, clearly in need of a refresh. Dele Alli returning would probably do wonders for the club, but the talented midfielder is still dealing with and hamstring issues.
Kane is now preparing for a season of transition while waiting for Alli's recovery. And perhaps Tottenham's new signings would make a difference.
