Huawei showed up at the IFA 2019 tech exhibition with the Kirin 990 5G chipset in tow. At that time, CEO Richard Yu also announced that the Mate X foldable phone would have an October or November release. Now, it's been confirmed that the official launch is set for October, at least in China, according to Huawei terminal customer service officer Guan Wei.
According to Wei, those who want to keep track of the Huawei Mate X and its exact release date should regularly check the company's website, Weibo account, and its forum site. The rep's news is a clear confirmation that the foldable phone will arrive soon, and it appears that Huawei is ready for the device to hit the stores.
After the Mate X's launch in China, it's understood that a global release will soon follow after, which according to reports would be in November.
Huawei's foldable phone was first introduced in February at the 2019 Mobile World Congress. At the time, the Mate X ran on the Kirin 980 processor. The company had said that the upcoming device will be sold in August, but the Chinese tech giant decided to delay the launch without officially announcing the reason why.
While Huawei has been very careful putting out information about the Mate X, rumor has it that there will two version. One is said to be powered by the Kirin 980 and the other with the latest Kirin 990, which happens to have support for 5G connectivity. It is also speculated that the Kirin 990 SoC edition of the Mate X will be featuring the same triple cameras that are available on the Huawei P30 Pro.
About a month ago, the Huawei Mate X emerged on TENAA's database, which revealed some details about the device. It's supposed to measure 161.3 x 146.2 x 11mm and comes with an 8-inch screen that supports 2480 x 2200 pixels and 8:7.1 aspect ratio. When you fold it, the device becomes a dual-display device with each side featuring different aspect ratios and pixel resolution.
The Huawei Mate X also comes with a fingerprint scanner that's mounted to one side and has up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of storage. Its 4,500mAh battery comes with 55W fast charging support.
Coincidentally, the Galaxy Fold and Mate X have seen delays in its launch. The Galaxy Fold is here, so it shouldn't be long before the Mate X takes the spotlight as the newest foldable phone.
