Manchester United fans were not happy with Harry Maguire's mentality that manifested in a tweet following the club's 0-0 draw with AZ Alkmaar. The Red Devils' performance was far from their best, failing to manage a single shot in the entirety of the match.
Maguire was rested for the match as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made several changes to his squad after drawing 1-1 on Monday's clash against Arsenal. Paul Pogba was noticeably absent after aggravating an ankle injury during the match against the Gunners. The midfielder was also excluded from Didier Deschamp's France squad on Thursday.
Except for United's 4-0 win over Chelsea in the Premier League's opening day, the club has not scored more than once in any match.
Solskjaer remains positive of the situation, and said there were "big pluses" to be taken from the result and that he was still "pleased" with the Red Devil's performance. Maguire seem content of the 0-0 draw and after the match wrote on Twitter: "A point away from home. Thanks for the support. See you Sunday @ManUtd."
The Englishman had left Leicester City to join United this summer, which makes him one of the club's newest additions. That being said, it appears the defender hasn't yet realized how different the expectations are at Old Trafford.
Man Utd fans weren't at all pleased with Maguire's conclusion of the match against Alkmaar, clearly disagreeing with the defender's satisfaction. One fan replied: "Get back to Hull City with this mentality," and another reminded him: "This is not Leicester."
This season, United have so far only managed to display poor performances and poor results. At one point, fans have rallied to sack the Norwegian gaffer, creating the hashtag #OleOut on Twitter. Against the Eredivisie side, Solskjaer's worries were compounded by Jesse Lingard limping off late on with a hamstring injury to leave United to see out the match with 10 men.
The best opportunity for United arrived during the first half when Mason Greenwood's attempt at close range was well blocked. Lingard went close in the final 10 minutes, but a point was an appropriate result in a tight contest between two well-matched teams.
The United boss' spirit is unbroken, however, and he is still hopeful that things will eventually turn around. He has admitted to feeling frustrated over the club's poor start and series of misfortunes, saying his men "deserved so much more."
"It's going to turn at one point, they'll get those decisions, and then they'll get the results they deserve," Solskjaer said.
