A few weeks ago, the gaming community was surprised to see the alleged PlayStation 5 dev kit making rounds online. The render was created by tech enthusiasts based on the design included in the patent filed by the Japanese console maker. One of the main reasons why this particular render exists is because a game dev inadvertently confirmed the design on the social networking site Twitter.

To make it more interesting, the dev later deleted his post along with his entire Twitter account. But, it turns out another developer with access to both Xbox Scarlett and PlayStation 5 has been actively sharing images of the PlayStation 5 dev kit for a while. Additionally, he also shared images of the PS5 dev box along with extra details about Microsoft's Xbox Scarlett.

Gizmodo recently reported the details shared through a series of emails by this leaker. The tipster also confirmed that the claims about the delayed release date of both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett were because AMD was slow to achieve the ray tracing support on AMD Navi. The leaker also shared that the PlayStation 5 was codenamed Prospero and was given to game developers this summer.

According to the report, the term Prospero is the name of the character that is present in William Shakespeare's "The Tempest." Other characters are Gonzalo and Ariel, which AMD also used to conceal the brand new parts of Sony's next-generation gaming console, the PlayStation 5. Gonzalo and Ariel are linked to the latest AMD semi-custom chips, Accelerated Processing Units, developed for gaming consoles.

In addition, the tipster also revealed that the next generation gaming consoles would have the greatest compute jump. The tipster also provided altered images that revealed a console similar to the render leaked earlier. However, it did not contain any markings that could help the console makers identify the source of the leak.

The report notes that the best photo sent by the leaker appears to have been cropped and downgraded to remove any possible identifying information. The details in the picture seem to be identical to the illustrations of the patent registration, says Gizmodo. The report further states that the photo shows a two-tone color job, just like the PlayStation 4 dev boxes.

Additionally, the device is covered in a silver finish that reflects the brash lights that illuminate it. The parts not covered in the silver finish are shrouded with black plastic, the report notes. The part visible includes the five gill-like vents and the massive V-shaped divot.
