The jailbreaking community is once again alive with the latest news about a new Apple exploit capable of jailbreaking a wide range of Apple iPhones including the iPhone X. Earlier today, Hacker and developer named Axi0mX shared another tweet on his Twitter account showing a video of a jailbroken Apple iPhone X. Last week, he shared a video of an iPhone jailbroken by his Apple iOS jailbreaking tool called checkm8.
On his latest post, the developer shared a new video showing the Apple iPhone X running on A11 chip booting up in verbose mode. It is worth noting that this mode is only possible with deeply profound modifications made to the core of the device's system. For those uninitiated, it basically refers to the removal of the restrictions of the iOS software on Apple devices.
This process is usually done to either modify the entire system of the device or to install other apps outside of the Apple App Store. According to the checkm8 developer's description of the process, he only spent a couple of seconds to jailbreak the Apple iPhone X using his latest exploit. To make the latest Apple iOS jailbreaking tool more interesting, it was able to jailbreak the iPhone X running on the latest iOS build, which is iOS 13.1.1.
For now, the checkm8 developer is using a semi-tethered method to deliver the exploit. In other words, it utilizes a computer to reload system modifications at each reboot. Untethered jailbreaks are usually more preferred since they can boot without the aid of a computer like normal Apple iPhones. But, it is worth noting that the Apple iOS jailbreaking tool creator revealed that checkm8 is an unpatchable exploit because it is based on a hardware exploit.
HACKED! Verbose booting iPhone X looks pretty cool. Starting in DFU Mode, it took 2 seconds to jailbreak it with checkm8, and then I made it automatically boot from NAND with patches for verbose boot. Latest iOS 13.1.1, and no need to upload any images. Thanks @qwertyoruiopz pic.twitter.com/4fyOx3G7E0 — axi0mX (@axi0mX) September 29, 2019
In other words, Apple could not easily patch it using a software update. But, many enthusiasts are still wondering what checkm8 really is. Others treat it as an exploit, several others claim it's an attack, while most view it as an Apple iOS jailbreaking tool. At least for now, checkm8 is an exploit, says iMore.
It will probably turn into a jailbreaking tool sooner, but for not, it has a very limited and very specific target to be considered an attack. Considering its restrictions and limits, checkm8 is something that most of us should not have to worry about, according to the site. The checkm8 creator also warns the public that this Apple iOS jailbreaking tool can permanently brick devices if not properly executed.
