Manchester United has confirmed that team boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is safe on the job and will continue the efforts of beefing up the Red Devils roster. Rumors continue to persist that the Norwegian manager will be booted out following United's defeat at the hands of the equally struggling Newcastle.
If after the international break and United suffers another loss, reports claimed it will be over for Solskjaer, but the club board has more important things in mind, The Times reported.
"Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's job as Manchester United manager is safe even if they suffer a bad defeat by Liverpool next week," the publication said.
The United board is said to be willing to give Solskjaer the time and space he requires to reverse the slump the Red Devils have been experiencing in the ongoing season. After eight games, United is now at a precarious 12th position and is only two points shy of getting relegated.
Still, the club is keeping the faith on the embattled Solskjaer.
"United's board is determined to be patient with Solskjaer, acknowledging the scale of the job he has taken on and has held a series of meetings with him and the club's extensive recruitment staff about four signings, including a center-forward, they want to make next year," The Times added on its report.
The United manager, in fact, has been on a hiring spree but has elected not to rush on filling the gap of talents plaguing the club now.
According to Metro, Solskjaer is focused on hiring young talents as evidenced by the recent arrival of Daniel James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire. For future acquisitions, United is bent on following the same model.
Also, it is not unlikely that Solskjaer will pay heed to the recent recommendations made by United legend Gary Neville, who acknowledged that the club "know what they want and the fans know that. But they have to be of the right type. It could take 18 months to find the players you want."
"They need a couple of midfielders, a striker to carry the frontline, a wide player and a left-back," Neville suggested.
On his part, it was clear that the vote of confidence from the United board boosted the spirit of Solskjaer. The Mirror reported that instead of enjoying the break, the team boss has opted to use the time for training.
His call to training was answered by Anthony Martial, Luke Shaw, Jesse Lingard, and Eric Bailly. Solskjaer himself was seen in high spirits and gave a thumb up while driving to the training ground, the report added.
