It has been a while since the world saw Henry Cavill fly through the sky as Superman in Justice League and there have been concerns that the Man of Steel actor will no longer return as Clark Kent. However, Cavill has just confirmed that he plans to continue playing Kal El in the DC Extended Universe film. Not surprisingly, this has led to speculations that Man of Steel 2 could be his next big project.
There is a good reason why DC fans were concerned that Henry Cavill might not reprise his role as Superman in future DCEU movies. After all, Ben Affleck famously dropped out from his role as Bruce Wayne and was replaced by Twilight star Robert Pattinson in the upcoming Batman movie directed by Matt Reeves. In addition to that, there were reports that Warner Bros. was unable to make a new deal with Cavill on returning for more DCEU films. However, the star of The Witcher has confirmed that he is still the true and current Man of Steel.
In a recent interview with Men's Health, Henry Cavill confessed that he is still looking forward to playing Superman in yet another film. "The cape is in the closet," he said. "It's still mine." It's a response that immediately had people speculating on a possible Man of Steel 2.
There have been reports suggesting that Man of Steel 2 will be one of the major DC Extended Universe movies that would follow Justice League. However, plans for the sequel were somehow lost along the way when Justice League didn't do as well at the box office as expected. Luckily, it seems like DCEU movies are gaining momentum, thanks to the success of Aquaman and Shazam!. With that in mind, people are already looking forward to seeing Henry Cavill as Superman in the near future.
For now, there is no official announcement about Man of Steel 2. However, there is a possibility that the project will be confirmed before the end of the year.
Henry Cavill might not be filming Man of Steel 2 right now but he is still a very busy man. He has just completed work on the new Netflix series The Witcher where he will play the monster hunter Geralt of Rivia. Cavill has also been confirmed to play Sherlock Holmes in the film Enola Holmes where Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown has been cast as the legendary detective's younger sister.
