An "attempt" to "rewrite history" about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's engagement interview in 2017 has been exposed as a result of the presenter of the interview rebutting the assertions made by the Duchess of Sussex.
The former actress stated that the formal talk fest was an "orchestrated reality show" in the 2022 episode of "Harry & Meghan," which finally led to journalist Mishal Husain disputing the “Suits” actresses' portrayal of the event.
"They [Harry and Meghan] really are [trying to rewrite history], I think Meghan is trying to rewrite history," royal editor Richard Eden dished on a recent episode of the "Palace Confidential" podcast, as per Daily Mail.
"There's one version that was out at the time, and she's trying to say, 'No, that's not what happened at all'. And now, this is Mishal Husain saying, 'Oh wait a minute, don't just try to rewrite history like that,'" he went on.
"They seemed to have thought through what their new lives would be like and what marriage would mean for her life in particular," Mishal told an outlet about how she perceived the sit-down with the Meghan and Prince Harry.
During their interview with Mishal on November 27, 2017, Prince Harry and Meghan appeared to be the perfect example of what a contemporary royal couple ought to be, according to a source within the palace. On the other hand, nobody had any idea what the subsequent three years would consist of.
"There was nothing that pointed to what would happen. It was two people who were full of joy in each other and life,” Mishal stated.
During the six-part documentary series that was broadcast on Netflix in December 2022, Meghan and Prince Harry were seen publicly condemning the British press as well as the monarchy. However, they focused more of their criticism on the former rather than the latter, which startled many people.
A number of royal correspondents and members of the British tabloid press have been subjected to open criticism from Prince Harry, as per OK! Magazine. In addition to compromising his and his family's privacy, he has accused them of spreading misleading narratives and spreading fake information.
In the documentary series "The Me You Can't See," which was produced by Prince Harry and Oprah Winfrey for Apple TV, he discussed the toxic relationship that exists between the royal family and the media. He detailed the ways in which the press harassed and vilified his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, who passed away in 1997. He also discussed how he saw history repeating itself with Meghan.
In addition, Prince Harry has voiced his disapproval of the so-called "invisible contract" that exists between the royal family and the press. According to this contract, positive coverage is frequently exchanged for proximity to the royal family. It is his belief that the unrelenting scrutiny and the dissemination of false information were factors that contributed to his and Meghan's choice to travel to the United States and step back from their royal duties. He has expressed his unhappiness with both of these factors.
"We weren’t allowed to tell our story... it was, you know, rehearsed,” Meghan further added in the documentary. "We know recollections may vary on this particular subject,” Mishal simply replied with a Queen Elizabeth II comeback at the time of the allegation.
