Previous reports revealed leaks showing that Apple's new AirPods officially have a rival: the "truly wireless" Powerbeats Pro. Now, the leak has been confirmed by no less than its maker, Beats by Dre.

In a press release (via 9To5Mac), Beats announced that the previously reported wireless Powerbeats Pro headphones will be released soon. Beats revels in the fact that the Powerbeats Pro is their first "truly wireless" pair of headphones.

Their current top-seller, the Powerbeats3, is a wireless pair of headphones that feature a wire that connects one earpiece to the other. The Powerbeats Pro, on the other hand, doesn't have a wire at all.

The Powerbeats Pro shares key technologies with the AirPods 2 while staying distinctly Beats. Here are some of its features.

H1 Chip

Powerbeats Pro also features the new H1 chip that powers the AirPods 2. With this chip, the Powerbeats Pro also gives users the convenience of "Hey Siri," improved audio quality, and longer talk and standby times.

Longer battery life

As mentioned, Powerbeats Pro features long battery life. In fact, longer than the AirPods. The battery has enough juice to provide users with up to 9 hours of listening time.

Are nine hours too short? With the magnetic closure charging case, combined playback time can be stretched up to more than 24 hours. What's more, a 5-minute charge can give the Powerbeats Pro up to one and a half hours of playback time.

Designed for active lifestyles

The Powerbeats Pro is a high-performance pair of headphones designed for active lifestyles. They can be worn during workouts, or pretty much anywhere.

These feature sweat and water resistance, perfect for gym workouts or when warming up at the basketball court. The ear hooks have been redesigned to provide a more secure, adjustable fit. And with Class 1 Bluetooth technology, users won't have to worry about connection problems.

Convenience

Aside from voice control and "Hey Siri" support, Powerbeats Pro also has a few controls designed for convenience.

Volume and track controls can be found on each earbud, allowing users to operate the Powerbeats Pro using any hand. This also allows users to play audio on just one ear if desired.

What's more, the earbuds feature sensors that detect if they are worn or not. These sensors turn the Powerbeats Pro on to play music once they detect that the earbuds are placed on the ears. Conversely, they pause the music if the earbuds are taken off.

Colors and Pricing

The Powerbeats Pro easily overtakes the new AirPods with four available colors: Ivory Black, Moss, and Navy. They will be sold at a later, undefined date for $249.95.
