The predecessor of "The Last of Us 2" is one of the few titles that achieved a milestone when it comes to the single-player experience. However, it has undeniably outstanding multiplayer experience too. With the alleged release of the title in the first quarter of 2020, sightings of the game's listings have been very frequent. One of these listings may have indicated that the much awaited might not, after all, support multiplayer.

Since the "The Last of Us 2" was announced and confirmed by Naughty Dog, fans have assumed that it will feature the same components that the original game has. However, if the recent listing is to be believed, it appears that the sequel might not have any kind of multiplayer. The listing was first noticed by Reddit user toochuy on the box of the Days of Play PS4.

"The Last of Us 2" is listed among other titles like "God of War," "Marvel's Spider-Man," and "Days Gone." These games do not support online multiplayer, and the Reddit user was wondering if Sony has, in a way, confirmed that the game has no multiplayer feature. He also did not dismiss the possibility that it could be just a goof.

Over the years, the Internet has seen its own share of news and stories of game details revealed on listings. Most of the time, they were just clerical errors; sometimes, they are deliberate acts to attract attention, and at times, are also consistent. This recent listing might be any of the three scenarios. But, of course, "The Last of Us 2" not having an online multiplayer mode is a contradiction to what the public knows about the game as revealed by official sources.

Anthony Newman of Naughty Dog and the co-director of "The Last of Us 2" during E3 2018 said that the upcoming sequel would have some kind of multiplayer with details to be revealed at a later time. Although the later time has not yet come, the game developer has not officially said that the popular mode will not be available in the upcoming sequel. Several job listings posted by the game developer also indicate that "The Last of Us 2" will be released with some kind of multiplayer mode.

Several months ago, Naughty Dog posted that it was looking for a Multiplayer Server Programmer with the job pointing to "The Last of Us 2." It is unlikely that the game developer scrapped the multiplayer feature if a few months ago, it was hiring for the above-mentioned position.
