The NBA free agency will begin on Sunday, June 30, at exactly 6:01 pm Eastern Time. But, teams can already offer their own free agents contracts any time even before the free agency starts. So far, the Golden State Warriors have yet to put their offer on the table for Klay Thompson, who would be expecting a five-year max deal contract worth $190 million.
In The Lowe Post podcast, Zach Lowe has talked to Adrian Wojnarowski who revealed that a max deal had not been communicated to the All-Star shooting guard. Should the Golden State Warriors fail to offer a deal to Klay Thompson before the free agency starts, he is free to entertain other teams to look for better opportunities. According to Wojnarowski, the only team so far that Thompson would seriously consider is the Los Angeles Clippers.
Wojnarowski said that according to his source, the Clippers is the only team that Thompson is open to sitting down with. He also talked about the possibility of the All-Star shooting guard to work with his team's NBA Finals rival, Kawhi Leonard. He said that if the Los Angeles Clippers could sell Kawhi Leonard to work with Klay Thompson, it would be a very appealing deal for any NBA free agent.
However, Wojnarowski is still tilting toward the Golden State Warriors offering Klay Thompson the deal that he would really want to keep him in the GSW. The All-Star shooting guard is scheduled for an ACL surgery this week. With numerous championships on the line, it safe to say that the Golden State Warriors might want to see first if the surgery turns out successful before they print their proposal.
Meanwhile, Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers is currently treading a neutral approach on the possibility of re-signing GSW's prized free agents Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson. On Monday, the media asked the general manager about the team's decisions on the upcoming free agency decision of Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant. He was asked if he would meet with the two prized GSW players to talk about their futures with the team.
The general manager confirmed that he is scheduled to meet with the NDA stars within the week. If GSW chooses not to pay for their best players who put their careers and bodies on the line to help the team achieve its three-peat victory, it might send a different message to other NBA stars in the league. The Golden State Warriors could create an impression that they do not know how to take care of its players.
