The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 is filled with rumors right now, especially since the upcoming device from the South Korean tech giant is nearing its launch. So far, we know that Samsung will release two variants of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10; one would be the base or standard variant, and the other will be a Plus model. A new report surfaced today that Samsung Galaxy Note 10 will feature a Time of Flight camera sensor.
The latest news about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 10 of having a time of flight camera is surprising. But, according to reports, this is a strategic move from the South Korean tech titan in order to expand its production prowess. What is the time of flight camera sensor?
This technology has begun to mature and is ripe for integration into the high-end mobile gadget. The sensor is generally used for in-depth recognition and motion-sensing purposes. Actually, Samsung already integrated this technology in the Samsung Galaxy 5G S10, and based on the most recent news, we will see the same technology in the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 product line.
The report about Samsung's plan of integrating Time of Flight camera sensor on its upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 10 came from the Korean media. According to the report, Kolen, Samsung supplier of the lens has recently expanded its production into Vietnam. Although the bulk of smartphones are made in South Korea, the strategic move will enable Kolen to have a synergy (in terms of supply) with the company.
The report revealed that Kolen invested around $21.6 million for a massive manufacturing plant in Vietnam's Quang Minh industrial complex. The construction of the entire facility will be finished by the end of the month and will start its operation in August 2019. The new factory will also enable Kolen to produce around 25 million camera lenses within a month, which is a 12 million increase in lens production capacity of the company.
A representative from the camera lens maker was quoted saying that Kolen is planning to make lenses in their soon to open the plant in Vietnam based on the plan of Samsung Electronics to expand the use of ToF lenses for its smartphones. It can be recalled that Samsung presented its Time of Flight camera sensor during the VLSI Symposium in Japan in June.
The ToF camera sensor is capable of capturing 640x480 70m pixels. It is a camera lens that is illuminated on the backside. It has the ability to detach the artifacts from its input and has a range of 400cm with 0.64pW/pixel power consumption. It is going to be another exciting feature if the technology will indeed make it to the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.
