Food is crucial for people to survive. Everything we consume: fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy, legumes, and cereals, is our body's source for vitamins and minerals that is used as gasoline for our systems to function properly. Unfortunately, not all people are given the privilege to consume enough food.

In the statistics conducted by the Food Aid Foundation, 1 out of 7 people experiences extreme hunger, especially in places such as Sub-Saharan Africa, where a lot of people are undernourished. Ironically, despite the demand of these people for more food, experts say in another side of the globe people are throwing away a huge amount of food, especially in first world countries. With an estimate of about 1.3 billion tons, over US$ 1 trillion worth of food is put to waste worldwide.

Because of these reasons, people are encouraged to save their food and resources even in their simplest ways. Unfortunately, not all the food that we stock in the fridge can stay longer. Good thing, in an online video posted on Facebook by Blossom, the page featured a guide to help people preserve their food and ingredients we often use to make our delicacies.

FLOUR

In storing flour and other food such as cereals, grains, and other cupboard products, one of the main problems we encounter are bugs, especially if it is already kept in the kitchen for so long. To and flour fresh without these weevils, the best thing to do is to keep inside an air-tight container with one or two bay leaves in it. You can surely keep your flour bug-free for several months all because of the bay leaves' strong fragrance.

SOFT CHEESE

Soft cheese is more at risk of spoiling as compared to other types of cheese since it is not exposed to boiling. Factors such as temperature and moisture are what greatly affect its bacterial growth, which could cause the cheese to spoil sooner. To preserve it longer, it is best to keep it dipped in a water-salt solution. The salt in the solution will make it impossible for the bacteria, which can cause the decomposition of the cheese, to exist.

Following these tips won't just allow you to preserve and maximize your food and resources. By keeping this in mind and applying these tips in your daily routine, you can surely save not just food but also money, which you can use in invest in other important things.
