Earlier today, the Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 was launched at the company's Surface event. And, just like what we reported a few weeks ago, the latest iteration to the popular Surface Laptop series is indeed powered by AMD. Here is a rundown of the specs and features of Microsoft Surface Laptop 3.
The Redmond-based tech company is indeed making a 15-inch Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 for those who want more screen and power and the 13.5-inch variant. These upcoming machines are AMD powered. AMD does not really do flagship devices, but it seems that the Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 launch is just the beginning of its journey in the flagship devices market.
The Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 features AMD Ryzen 7 CPU and AMD Vega 11 GPU, dubbed as the AMD Ryzen Microsoft Surface Processor. Microsoft's Panos Panay states that the latest Microsoft Surface Laptop iteration houses the fastest processor among laptops of its category. Simply put, the Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 is faster than the fastest H-series 8th generation processors from Intel.
The 13.5-inch Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 features 10th generation Ice Lake 4-core CPU, which, according to Microsoft's Chief Product Officer is twice as powerful as the Surface Laptop 2 and three times more powerful than Apple's MacBook Air. Panay also notes that the Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 can charge from 0 to 80 percent in less than an hour and retain an all-day battery life. The CPO also used the keyboard discussion to discuss the serviceability of the latest laptop's design.

Instead of gaining access to the internal components of the Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 through the bottom, Panay says that they designed a removable keyboard deck. Through this, it is easier for users to repair or upgrade the laptop while providing a more seamless design of aluminum chassis. More than the new processor and the bigger variant, the Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 has a much bigger trackpad, which is 20 percent larger than its older sibling.

It also has an enhanced repairability with only four removable screws at the bottom for easier access and maintenance. The Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 will start shipping on October 22 but pre-orders are now up. The 13.5-inch Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 will be retailed at $1000 while the 15-inch Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 will have a starting price of $1200.
