Apple is currently enjoying the phenomenal success of the AirPods Pro despite the supply crunch. Aside from the wireless earbuds, Apple is also rumored to be working on a high-end over-ear headphone. A new report may have revealed some of the details about this premium headphone.

Apple Over-Ear Headphone

Aside from the Apple-owned Beats brand, the Cupertino company has long been rumored to be developing over-ear headphones. Despite Apple's silence about the device, it appears that a patent it filed gave away some of its interesting details. It also seemingly confirms Apple's plan of launching the device soon.

Apple Over-Ear Headphone Features

While nothing is officially revealed about the rumored Apple Over-Ear headphone, the patent titled "Detection of headphone rotation" gives us some clues. It talks about Touch Gestures that function regardless of the headphone's position on the head of the user. It also talks about the way on how the user could control music playback without the use of buttons and instead of using gestures.

It is also likely that Apple's Over-Ear headphone might feature Noise and Wind Cancellation based on a patent filed by the company. Patently Apple found two noise and wind cancellation patents filed by Apple and published by the USPTO in Nov. 2018. Additionally, the Apple Over-Ear headphone might sport an adjustable headphone band, as stated in the patent titled "Headphones" filed in Jan. 2019.

Other features expected to be in Apple Over-Ear headphones include Noise isolation and wireless pairing functionality like the AirPods, as well as wireless charging. It could also feature optional wired connection when superior audio quality is required, Hey Siri, and an H1 chip. Earlier rumors claimed that Apple could be working with SZS and Primax on this project.

Other Details

Whispers about Apple's Over-Ear headphone started as early as 2018. TFI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said at that time that the Cupertino company would release high-end over-ear headphones with an all-new design under the Apple brand. The reliable Apple tipster predicted that the device would feature better sound quality and offer convenience to users.

Bloomberg, in Mar. 2018 and July 2018 supported Kuo's claim. The publication later reported that the release was pushed back because of developmental challenges. It added that it could arrive in the first half of 2019. But, since all these predictions did not pan out, Macworld claims that the most likely release date could be in Mar. 2020.

It is worth mentioning that these details about the Apple Over-Ear headphone are not official yet. Some of these are based on patents filed by Apple.
