The ongoing misfortune of Manchester United is a puzzle that one man can solve with ease, and that would be Brendan Rodgers who presently calls the shot at Leicester City. Former Arsenal legend Paul Merson thinks the Red Devils need to recruit the man who nearly won the Premier League for Liverpool.

Merson offered his thoughts as United continues to struggle, managing only two wins in the current season after six outings so far. The club had a promising bunch of additions in the summer, namely Harry Maguire, Daniel James, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but can't seem to put the pieces together.

Unsurprisingly, the recently appointed United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is feeling the heat as his team slid to number eight. Following the loss against West Ham, it seems a difficult journey for United even to make the top four.

"Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under increased pressure, and some fans are starting to turn on the Norwegian despite the club being just six games into the season," the Mirror reported.

While clarifying that he's not advocating for Solskjaer's early exit, Merson said someone else is a better fit to lead Manchester United, and that would be Rodgers.

"You look at Leicester, I think the manager, I think he's different class. If he weren't manager of Liverpool before, he should be manager of Man United," Bleacher Report quoted Merson as saying.

Before his stint at Liverpool, Rodgers managed the Celtic then he returned to England to take on his current job, where he appears to be doing well. At least when compared to Manchester, Leicester under Rodgers is showcasing signs of a winner.

Leicester is tipped to finish on top of the Premier League, and Merson couldn't agree more that the rise bears the imprints of Rodgers.

"If anybody can break in [to the top six] it will be Leicester because of Brendan Rodgers," the football icon said.

Unfortunately, it seems remote that United will even think of getting the services of the celebrated, only because of his previous links with Liverpool, which is the Red Devils' bitter rival. Rodgers is unlikely to head to Manchester, and his past goods works with Liverpool are to blame.

If indeed it's out of the question for United to get a new manager, Merson insisted the team needs to get its acts together. United is obviously on a slump, and team officials need to sit and talk.

"I think Manchester United have got to get a big meeting together," Metro reported Merson as saying.

First on the agenda has to be the hunt for the best players in the next four or five windows and one name that should be shortlisted is Jadon Sancho, he added.
